The Second to Slam Dunk

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Last night the second woman ever in WNBA gave the audience a show with a slam dunk. Candace Parker from the LA Sparks hit the board running and although not with the same strength you would see from the men, it was something that jazzed the LA Sparks team and helped lead them to victory over the Indiana Fever at the Staples Center. After the game Parker was interviewed and she said it was most important to be able to meet this milestone in her career in front of the home crowd as it would not have been the same if she could not share it with her fans. Congrats.

IT Did Not Happen- Celtics Win THE NBA Title

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

The NBA season is over and the IT ( potential history making) we have been writing about is no longer a possiblity. The Celtics have won the NBA finals Tuesday night in Boston and we have to admit the last game was not what we expected and we can confidently say it was not what most expected. When the finals started, the the majority of basketball announcers, predictors, sports fanatics, and followers expected the Lakers to take it, including us. However, the Celtics defense created shockwaves to the many picks across the land.

On the Lakers side, Kobe came out strong and then the Celtics got him off his shooting and it went down hill from there. This is disappointing for the Lakers we are sure, but if you look at where they were the year before, us Laker fans have to be pleased it was a great season. Sure we would have liked the trophy, but it was not meant to be this year.  We do think it will be next and we know the Lakers have a great team and can only get better.

Can They Do IT?

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

That is the question on our minds in Basketballville and we know it will not be easy as no team in NBAhirstory has done IT. The “IT” that we are speaking about is to come back from a 3-1 deficit in the finals and take the trophy and get the rings. Celtic fans are hoping IT can not be done, but some team has to do IT at some time so we are hoping this is the time and why not the Lakers?

Game 5 was not as “pretty” as we would have liked to see our team play but the Lakers got the W in the column to force game 6 tonight and we will see. Even if you are a Celtic fan- you could admit a game 7 would be pretty amazing for basketball fans. Basketballville is biased as you already know (hope we do not get sued *disclaimer all is an opinion and not fact* but that is another story for another day). Here’s hoping that we will be writing about a great game 6. Tip off is coming up so we are all ready. Hope you are too.

What was THAT?

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I think a lot of people might be asking themselves ”What was THAT?” today. Whether you are a Lakersfan or not it is still hard to believe what happened last night. Of course it burns more for those of us that are Lakers fans but as stated yesterday it was sure to be exciting and maybe even controversial. Controversy surrounds this series but last night it was not the officiating that we are all talking about it, is the utter shock of how the game slipped away and why it was not handled better. The Lakers were up 24? What happened?

Although Jackson seems to think it to not be over as if the season just started in his post game interview last night, it is, and we all know it. It is almost to the point of please put us out of the torture which this series has become for most that love basketball, except for maybe a few fans in Boston. Those fans: they could not win the superbowl,  so I guess we have to give them the NBA trophy. Or maybe Jackson knows something the rest of us do not…

Maybe we can hold a sale on the Lakers pre-printed NBA finalists hats and caps, or not.

NBA Finals in Full Action

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Can you think of a better way to start off our blog than in the middle of the NBA Finals? We couldn’t, so that is why we are kicking things off this way. This years finals have been nothing less than expected and with added officiating controversy and the most watched first two games in 5 years, it is sure to just keep getting better.

We do have to admit our bias in this as we are Laker fans here at Basketballville probably based on our close proximity to Los Angeles but we would never have imagined that the Lakers would be in the Finals when the  season started. Local papers were full of articles about Kobe wanting to be traded and many other rumors that only locals get to see.  Our guess is Kobe is pretty pleased he didn’t get what he wanted regarding that but he did get a team that he can trust and play well with as well as a good center that actually makes the game interesting.

As for the Celtics, they have some incredible defense. We used to think you could not win a game through defense alone, but the first two games showed differently. The Celtics have some really great defensive moves and the Lakers can learn a thing from watching that side of the tape.

Now about that controversy…is it true? Only the NBA knows that for sure and anyone that could have taken part in it. We do see a lot of ticky tack fouls that make us wonder too, but… It is not enjoyable basketball (for the fans and looks like for the players)  to not let the players play it out so hopefully game 4 will allow for just that. Game 4 is sure to be exciting - if not controversial too. We are just hoping for a lot less of the latter and of course for the Lakers to make it 2-2 (which might make the NBA happy too. ut oh, was that actually said?)
