The Washington Wizards have fired coach Flip Saunders after the team has started the season 2-15. It was clear that Saunders had lost his team during the slow start. Saunders was only 49-115 in his first two years coaching the team.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Russell Westbrook to a reported 5 year – $80 million contract extension through 2016-2017. I think this is a good move for the Thunder. Despite the tensions among the team in past weeks the combination of Westbrook and Durant looks to be a good one-two punch for years to come.

Thursday night in Oakland the Golden State Warriors implemented the hack-a-shaq on Dwight Howard to keep the contest close. In the end Orlando beat Golden State 117-109 but along the way Howard shot a record 39 free throws in the game and made only 21 of them. He finished with a season-high 45 points and 23 rebounds.

Sacramento Kings coach Paul Westphal has been fired early in the season after a 2-5 start which saw tension between the coach and young center DeMarcus Cousins. Early in the week Cousins was benched and told to stay away from the team for his alleged request to be traded – which Cousins denied.
